
THE PRE HORSE
The PRE horse dates back into the 16th Century, during the times of great change in what was going to be modern europe and during the time where the Spanish empire was the greatest in Europe. The spanish horse became popular during this time and influenced the founding of many breeds across Europe. They reflect both the past and the present, and allow the sense of future possilbilities. By 1912, Spanish Ministry of Defense Breeding Service (known as the Crua Caballar) initiated the PRE Studbook. Following a series of zootechnical rules and regulations implemented by the EU and the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, the PRE studbook was turned over the ANCCE, thus guarantee the purity of this century-old breed. ANCCE is the only PRE studbook for PRE horses worldwide. ANCCE establishes the agreements and the procedures with breeders and governing bodies in various countries to manage the breed in those locations, Australia having AUSPRE. The breeding program was launched in 2003, since then methodologies have been establish to fine tune the complete and objective control of conformation and functional performances. This provides breeders the tools to asess their stocks and plan their breeding to better assist them in breeding the best stock they can.
BREED CHARACTERISTICS
The PRE horse are a robust, clear-headed and well balanced breed. They posess energy and are noble but docile. They show willingness to training, easily adapt to diverse jobs and situations and want to please. Their paces are ground covering, brilliant, energetic, cadenced and elastic with appreciable elevation and extensions, and are known for their extraordinary capacity for collection. The PRE horse is of a height range at the withers of 1.54-1.72m (Stallions) and 1.52-1.70m (mares). They are well proportioned and have intermediately straight toplines with sub-convex to straight profiles. They posses general harmony and beauty with their long manes and beautiful spanish necks.
WBFSH
The PRE horse is so versatile and can participate in many of the equestrian disciplines including Dressage and Working Equitation. They make fantastic all rounders that can be enjoyed from the novice right up to the professional rider.
PRE horses when registered with FEI can have their scores included into their rankings in discipline with the World Breeding Federation for Sport Horses - Currently ANCCE studbook ranking for the PRE horse sit in the top 12 breeds competing worldwide in dressage, which demonstrates their potential to compete at the highest of levels of competition.
